Belonging is never simple- it is a thread stretched between memory and present, between where we came from and where we try to root ourselves again. For many who have experienced immigration, the idea of society is both comforting and fragile. We arrive from a different culture, with distant memories like a faded sketch of a home that no longer exists. So we are giving our best to build up something new and strong, a map of safety, identity and connection. So this artwork depicts my childhood memories, growing up at my grandparents house, mother figures, caring but very distant. Thin lines representing the threads weaving everything together because you can’t have a present without a past.
